Helping Families Help Seniors Accept a Move

Helping Families Help Seniors Accept a Move

One of the most common stressors for family members of older people is that moment when it is no longer safe or practical for the senior to live in their own home. There are a number of nearly universal reasons for this, and most families have their own factors to consider as well. But across the board, it is a time where having access to trusted resources and good information can make a huge difference in the outcome.
When Home Instead Senior Care developed the award-winning 40-70 Rule program in 2008, and the 50-50 Rule program in 2011, providing these resources to families was at the very heart of our mission. Over time, we've updated and enriched the programs to ensure that they are as comprehensive and applicable to as many potential scenarios as possible. We have also developed other programs to help make it easier for older people to age in place.
If you are a senior care professional who works with families in this situation, we invite you to use any of the materials we've developed, which are available at caregiverstress.com. Some pieces you might find particularly useful include:
The 40-70 Rule booklet: This downloadable guide covers an array of issues from warning signs to conversation starters, to how to handle thorny topics such as driving, dating and money matters
Options for senior living: Americans over 65 face more choices for how and where they want to live than any generation before them. This link is a great jumping off point for exploring them.
Making Home Safer for Seniors: There are so many easy and affordable ways to help a senior age in place.
We hope you are able to share this information with the families with whom you work and that it is helpful to them. If you are interested in learning more about our programs, our mission, or our professional CAREGivers, please contact us!
